The Ink Studies started around 2017, while I was working as a tattoo artist. I began making increasingly detailed anatomical drawings of animals and human skeletons as a way to train my lining skills.

Tattooing really pushed me to learn how to make perfect lines. It’s probably the only medium that can literally punch you in the face if you fuck up someone’s lines, so I was pretty motivated.

The series became a study of anatomy and contrast: dead skeletons drawn with lively, dynamic lines; rigid dark shapes against intricate bones; heavy blacks against delicate linework.

It became the foundation for a lot of the work I developed over the following ten years.
